10:59 PM
7lbs. 0 oz.
19.5 inches

At 37 weeks and 2 days, with 6 hours of labor total, and 6 pushes...our precious Isaac is here! We are so blessed...our prayers were answered for a safe delivery and a healthy baby. Isaac , Mommy and Daddy are all doing great...

5:00 PM to 8:30 PM: Early labor at home: "Is this really labor? Nah..." [contraction comes] "OWWWW!!! YES THIS IS LABOR!" [Contraction ends]. "This can't be labor--it doesn't hurt THAT bad. Plus, he's 3 weeks early!" [contraction comes] "OWW!! Call the doctor!" Luckily Reily was a sweetheart and was very cuddly. Daddy took good care of him once he got home from work around 6:00 PM and did all of the last minute things while we waited for Grandma Ellen to come watch Reily.

9:15 PM: Arrived at the hospital and was almost crying...the contractions got a lot worse on the 20 minute drive to the hospital. The pain was so much worse than with Reily. With Reily we arrived at the hospital and I was 8 cm dilated...so I knew I had to be further. Labor and Delivery was really busy, so we had to wait 5 minutes for a nurse to even talk to us and then they put me in triage and I was having contraction every 2 minutes. No one came to check on me or even hook me up to the machines for about 15 minutes. I made Hans call a nurse because I felt like I had to push. She came, and decided to check me before she hooked me up to the machines--said I was at 10 cm and said we're going to a room to have the baby!
I begged for an epidural, since I didn't have one with Reily because I was so far along when I arrived, I'd been planning to get to the hospital sooner with this baby. Whoops! :) They said it was probably too late and I begged and begged...Even going natural with Reily was nothing compared to this pain...somehow they managed to get the epidural doctor to my room--he was running around and got the epidural in within 15 minutes, and I immediately felt 1000% better! (The picture from above is right after I got the epidural!) I was coherent again and could focus on the questions they were asking me...since I was 10 cm already, Dr. Stallworth (the same doc who delivered Reily...) broke my water, and the baby immediately descended to a +3 station. We decided to let the baby adjust for a few minutes while they got everything ready, and I was able to have Hans pray for me and see my Dad, Hans' Dad and my Aunt Neeny. I felt so great and really connected to what was going on around me...
10:55 PM: We got ready to push! I was expecting a long time, since I pushed for over 2 hours with Reily. We started pushing at 10:55 and 3 contractions and 6 pushes later, Isaac was here at 10:59 PM! He had the cord wrapped tightly around his neck twice, but his shoulders delivered easily and there were no major complications! And look at all of that dark hair!!!
We'll post more pics tomorrow...baby and Daddy are sleeping, but Mommy's adrenaline hasn't worn off quite yet! :)

Lisa, I can not believe you managed to be blogging 3.5 hours after you gave birth. Quite a feat, well done.

And Isaac is adorable! What a wonderful name. I thoroughly approve. That name knocked around on our list of names for David for quite a while. And of course who could object to a good Swedish name like Anders.

So much hair!
