Birthday and Surrounding Events

Well, I recently changed my age…and had a wonderful time celebrating with my family!

Of course, I somehow managed not to get ANY pictures…so, just take my word that we had a wonderful time!  Hans’ parents had a joint birthday party with all of our family for our birthdays, and Hans surprised me and we went downtown and spent the night at a trendy hotel in the heart of Denver—thanks Grandma and Grandpa for watching the boys!

We also ate dinner at the Broker, where we spent 3 hours talking, catching up, dreaming about the future, and indulged in a 4 course meal that included lobster and filet mignon (me), and prime rib and crab legs (Hans).  Yum…and amazing, since most of our dinners are no where near that delicious, and are crammed into about 15 minutes of trying to convince the boys to eat their vegetables while dreading doing the dishes afterwards! :)

We spent time walking around downtown, had breakfast at a diner in the morning, and went to Elitches Amusement Park the next day!  I’m definitely getting old though…I can’t handle the spinny rides and roller coasters as well as I used to!!  There weren’t very many people there, and we didn’t have to wait long for the rides—some of them even let us ride them again immediately afterwards because no one was waiting!  (Note to self:  if your stomach is flip-flopped after a fast, winding roller coaster, it’s probably not a good idea to ride it again twice in a row!)

After Elitches, we went to the Cherry Creek North Shopping area, I used a gift certificate, we ate frozen yogurt and strolled the streets…so much fun to spend concentrated time alone with the love of my life—Thank You, Hans, for making my day so special!!

Also on my birthday weekend I had a few friends over for a cooking/baking extravaganza…we make a pumpkin stew (really yummy, but weird to cook something in a pumpkin!), apple butter, pumpkin butter, and an apple upside-down cake!  We cooked all day and then invited the husbands over and we all enjoyed the meal together…yum!

Also around this time, I helped throw a baby shower for a good friend, Heidi, who’s expecting a baby girl in December…it was a surprise shower and included flying her best friend out from Seattle to give her an even bigger surprise!  The look on her face was priceless, and made the torture being so secretive totally worth it!
