The Olympics--Opening Ceremony

If you've known us for a long time, you know that one of our dreams was to go to the Beijing Olympics. When we were in high school and they announced that the 2008 Olympics would be in Beijing we said "We're going to be there!" Fast forward to 2008, and we just couldn't justify wiping out our savings and leaving our sweet baby to go to China for 2 weeks. I guess our priorities have changed a little bit...it's a little disappointing, but we know that eventually we'll get to China, so it's not the end of the world...

So, since we couldn't be there in person, I decided we'd bring a little bit of China to us and we had a family Opening Ceremony Party.

Here's Hans and Bella preparing to eat some Chinese food...(American Chinese food--take out, to be exact. It's the best I could do...I didn't feel like making chicken feet or some other Chinese delicacy!) Drinking tea. Also, notice the chopsticks--I insisted that we not use Western silverware. So it took us quite awhile to eat the meal!
Hans and Reily watching the opening ceremony over the obstacle course. Yes, we had an obstacle course. We also studied the history of the Olympics and colored the Chinese flag. I think Hans and I enjoyed it more than Reily. Oh well...maybe in a few more years he'll have an international appreciation!
Reily getting ready to begin the obstacle course!
He won!! Gold Medal for Reily James!
