Yay, I can finally talk about the baby!

Thanks, everyone for the baby wishes!! You wouldn't believe how happy I am to finally be able to tell our "secret!" Considering with Reily we told most people when I was about 5 weeks along, this seemed like forever! I figured I'd answer most of the questions on here because I find some of them very humorous!

1) Yes, this baby was very much planned. (Imagine people I hardly know asking me this...)

2) Reily and the new baby will be about 20 months apart. I think this is a perfect age difference! We always knew we wanted kids close together...I am an only child and Hans has a 5 year gap between him and his older sister...and that didn't turn out so well. So--we want them close in hopes they'll be good friends!

3) Yes, I understand we'll have 2 under 2 and they will both be in diapers at the same time. (Do people think pregnancy makes you stupid or something?) We can handle it.

4) We waited so long to tell because our first ultrasound showed a small yolk sac/gestational sac in comparison to the size of the baby. The doctor told us we had a 90% chance of miscarrying. Talk about devastation! The next week we had another ultrasound and they were still measuring small in comparison to the baby, but the baby still had a strong heartbeat of 172 bpm! At 11 weeks 5 days, the baby was still doing well with a heartbeat of 180 bpm! So...Praise God for this little miracle baby! But also, please pray...we're not out of the woods yet and this pregnancy has already been marked by a lot of fear...but we're looking good and the doc said on Friday that the chance of miscarriage is down to 1%!

5) Honestly, we don't care if we have a boy or a girl...they way I phrased it to Hans--"I"ll be disappointed either way." He just laughed! Of course, I'll be excited and happy either way too! I thought I would desperately want a girl after having a boy first, but now when I think about it, I would LOVE for Reily to have a brother--he just loves other boys! Plus we already have all the clothes, etc... Of course, I always wanted a girl...so, who knows. After a few of my babysitting experiences this summer though, I'm not sure if I'm the hair-braiding, Pretty-Pretty Princess playing type of a Mom. I guess we'll have to wait until December to find out!

(By the way--to fill everyone on my side of the family in--Hans' grandparents currently have 14 great-grandSONS, and NO great-granddaughters. There are 5 of us grandchildren/in-laws pregnant now...3 are due before me, and according to his grandparents, one is due after me. We know one is a boy already...my theory is the others will either all be boys to bring the total to 19 boys, or the two in front of me are going to have girls and begin a girl streak that will go on indefinitely...)

Well, that's all I can think of for now. Reily's taking a nap and I think I just might do that too!

Just heard the good news! Congratulations! You'll be as busy or busier than we were with 2 under 2. But I know you can handle it. We're soo happy for us! Much love, Bob, Laura, Shane and Sören

I was laughing so hard when I read your post. I have thought on many occasions "do people think I became stupid when I conceived??" The diapers will keep your hands full, but I completely agree...the kids will appreciate being close, so good job mom and dad!!

We'll have the same age difference between our kids too! I think it will be great. I'm leaving the gender as a surprise: let you know sometime in February if we have a girl!
