Crazy week

We've had a crazy week, and not in our usual crazy-busy-good way...

My dad had a heart attack while golfing on Sunday, 10/18 and I didn't get the emergency calls from the golf course or the chaplain at the hospital for about 6 hours because I was busy taking care of Reily, who was very sick and vomiting all afternoon...lesson learned, I will always check my voicemail regularly going forward.

Other golfers were able to give him CPR and he regained consciousness in the ambulance. He spent the next few days taking every test known to man, and as I write this, is at Porter hospital in surgery having a double bypass and heart-valve replacement surgery. Luckily I was able to be with him all morning and will be able to see him when he wakes up. Prognosis is good, but it will be a long recovery.

Reily has been sick all week and it has been a logistical nightmare to get to the hospital because Hans is in the middle of a huge audit at work and couldn't take any time off, and none of my friends were able to babysit because they couldn't risk getting their kids sick. Then I wasn't feeling well, and it seemed like everything that could go wrong, did.

So...now that I have hours and hours to spend in the waiting room at the hospital, I finally have time to catch up on blogging!

Here are some of my random thoughts:

I hate hospitals. I have spent far too much of my life in hospitals. It feels like deja vu being here at Porter for heart surgery...I sat in this same waiting room tons and tons of times before when my Grandma Quinn went through this. I hated it then and I hate it now.

My Dad makes me laugh. He jokingly said he wants to get "Do Not Resuscitate" tattooed on his forehead so if he has another heart attack golfing, they won't do CPR and break his ribs...

It's annoying that children under 18 aren't allowed in hospitals right now because of swine flu. Granted, I wouldn't bring my sick kids here, but if they were healthy, it would be a whole lot easier to bring them than work around them and try to find a time to visit.

I hate how doctors and nurses say they will give you updates every 2 hours while your loved one is in surgery. He's been in now for 4.5 hours and I haven't heard a thing. No news is good news, right?

I love my cell phone carrier, Verizon. We went over on our minutes because I've been making so many phone calls, and were going to get stuck with a big bill. I called them and explained the emergency situation, and they gave us a ton of extra minutes for this month, no questions asked, and were really concerned about my Dad and him getting better. I'm now one of Verizon's biggest fans and will be a lifelong customer! Glad to know good companies still exist out there...

One of the most pitiful things in the world is seeing your baby sick and not himself...poor Reily. Praise the Lord Isaac hasn't gotten it, and I only got a mild version and feel fine now.

Well, maybe I'll do a few posts of old pictures since it helps pass the time...
