Skiing!
To start the year off right, we got Reily on skis for the first time!! I bought a pair of skis and poles for him at a garage sale last year, and we finally broke them out! He looked so cute!!
He had a few tumbles…
But always kept a smile on his face! Maybe next year we’ll take him up to Copper Mountain and get him on the slopes!
Winter Blast & Cabin Fever!
There was a period of about 3 weeks when the weather was so cold (negative 20 degrees as a high), and we were all sick (Isaac had strep throat and the rest of us had colds…)so we were inside a lot! There was one point I hadn’t left the house, even to go on the porch, in something like 92 hours…can you say C-A-B-I-N F-E-V-E-R?? We kept busy by playing trains…
Little Helpers?
And helping mommy with the laundry…
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
We took a day and went down to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. Isaac learned to say “giraffes” and they are now his favorite animals, so we had to go down and feed them! They had a blast!
The giraffes were all inside because their outside enclosure had construction…
Reily enjoyed the birds…
Isaac didn’t enjoy being a tiger, though…
But he brightened up on the carousel!
The highlight of the day was seeing the orangutans!
We saw a baby orangutan that had a blanket and was playing peek-a-boo! The boy kept saying “Where’s the baby orangutan? There he is!!” Precious…
Glenwood Springs Trip!
The highlight of February was our trip up to Glenwood Springs with my cousin Jenn and her family! We stopped by the snow sculptures in Breckenridge on our way up…
Isaac enjoyed my old stomping grounds—I lived there when I was their age…
They had one snow sculpture that the kids could climb on…so cool!
This was our favorite…an underwater scene with a scuba diver, shark and octopus!
Warming up with some hot cocoa and pastries in a little coffee shop on Main Street Breckenridge!
Dinner out our first night…let’s just let the photo speak for itself. Rei and Isaac adore Cameron, he could take them or leave them…

Here are the boys watching the steam rise off the water while we waited for the pool to open the next morning…it was well below freezing…not sure what we were thinking!! It was SO cold, and the 94 degree water felt great…and it was kind of cool/misty and you couldn’t see more than 2 feet in front of you…definitely a memory. Until Isaac’s head got wet and he started screaming…
We came back later that afternoon when it was a little warmer (maybe in the 30-degree range??) We put a hat on Isaac to keep his head warmer…
Sam, Jenn and Cameron! :)
View of the pool…
Isaac’s “smile.”
The boys in the HOT pool (I think it was about 104?)
The boys weren’t very happy about me trying to take their picture when they wanted to be climbing in the big truck at our hotel…
Flood and Goofballs…
We returned after a treacherous drive through the mountains and the snow…of course, I was too terrified while driving to snap any pictures. We made it over the mountain passes, my cousin wasn’t so lucky and had to have both of their cars towed up the pass…I felt awful but was so glad everyone was okay—and we made yet another memory!! When we got home, we found out that Hans’ parents house had flooded due to burst pipes while they were in Africa for 3 weeks…it was terrible! We went over there the next day to try to help, and ended up pouring water out of all of their cabinets…Lee and Ellen are still in a hotel while their home is being restored…they hope to be back home in April.
Here’s our little goofball with his goofy little smile! I love you Isaac!
This is the photo we put on a card to Miss Darla and Miss Tawney, who work in the nursery at church every Sunday for Sunday School. Isaac is usually the one one in there and I feel bad that they need two adults to watch one child for Sunday School, so we got them little Valentines with a picture of yours truly…
And our big goofball—Reily!
We played at Joey’s house and he took Reily for a spin around the block! Pretty soon we’ll need to get Reily a car…but hopefully not for another 13 years!
Messy boy! He still prefers using his fingers, though he’s capable of using a spoon!
Valentine’s Day!
Baking Valentine’s Cookies with GG and JoJo!
Enjoying the chocolate they got for Valentine’s Day! Yum!
This is SO good---I have to have one for each hand! (His new thing…both hands must be full of food…)
Children’s Museum
We took a trip to the Children’s Museum and played on the fire truck!
But their favorite was the Bubble Exhibit and wearing the cool safety goggles!
Reily the Scientist
I LOVE this photo of Isaac…it almost captures how excited he was!
The bubble popped before Isaac could catch it!
Think he’ll grow up to enjoy science?
Bunk Bed!
And Reily got a new bed—a BUNK BED! Grandpa and Daddy spent hours one night putting it together. The people from church who gave it to us told us it was very easy to put together…after a few hours, we finally had Reily sleep on the floor and we fixed it the next day. Oh well, free furniture is free furniture—who needs instructions??
Grandma reading Isaac a story…
Reily was the big helper!
The boys on the finished product! Reily’s only allowed to go on the top for story time, devotions, and occasionally naps, but we still make him sleep on the bottom at night!
Random…
Look at my happy boy! :)
Another one…I just can’t get enough of that sweet little face! :)
Hans had a nasty bout of the stomach flu, and brought me flowers a few days later for taking care of him…I have the best husband in the world!!!
Trains, Trains, Trains…
We’ve also been obsessed with trains lately…or, as Isaac says, Choo Choo Tway…
We ended up getting Isaac a birthday present early—a train table with more train pieces!
He loves it!
And then when we went shopping for another birthday present, we found a kid’s laptop for $10, and since the boys have been obsessed with our laptop, we decided to get one for them to play with! It’s still a little advanced for them, but it’s good for games and learning!
Air Museum
We went on a play date to the Wings Over the Rockies Air Museum, and it was really fun! Reily got to “fly” the Wright Brother’s plane…
And here he is in a cockpit with his favorite older friend, Hudson. Seriously, Reily LOVES Hudson and had such a blast! His face doesn’t show it, but I think it’s because he was mad at me for making him look to take a picture…
Playing in the Kids Space Station area with their friends…
Isaac thought it was okay…
They had free model airplanes that the kids could do…Reily was a little young, but it was great bonding for Daddy and Reily!
Here he is putting stickers on his model airplane!! A very fun day indeed!
Visiting GG and Jo Jo
We went and visited my Grandma and Grandpa Schaal, and Isaac took a little nap on GG!
Once he woke up we all went to the backyard to enjoy the nice weather!
I have pictures of me when I was their age playing in this yard…I really need to dig out those photos to compare! :)
Playing tag…
Climbing the Apple Tree!
We love GG!! And Ice Cream! :)
I’ll catch up with the recent photos too…but since I started writing this post weeks ago, I figure I might as well get it up! :)
