Father's Day 2009 and Isaac's Dedication

Happy Father's Day!! We tried to make it a good day for Hans...Reily woke up about 6:00 AM, and he helped me make Hans his favorite breakfast: french toast. Isaac stayed asleep when I got up (which is amazing in itself), so we were even able to pull off breakfast in bed! :) We had Isaac dedicated today at church, which made it a very special Father's Day. Reily was dedicated on Mother's Day, so we thought today would be a meaningful day to dedicate Isaac. My parenting take-away lesson from this event is that I need to focus more on Isaac (and Reily), as children in and of themselves, and not allow the distractions and chaos that surrounds them to get in the way of fully participating in each moment with them.

For example, out of the numerous Scriptures that were read, I can only remember one of them, because I was too busy trying to calm Isaac's fussing, or watching the guy we had video tape the dedication fumble around with the camera and not film any of it, or keep Reily from yelling out or trying to run around, etc...

But, the one verse I do remember is this: Proverbs 22:6: Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

I pray that Hans and I are able to raise our boys to be strong men of Christ, and one day, they will come to know Jesus as their Savior--what more can a Mom ask for?

All things considered, the boys did okay...the dedication was scheduled for the beginning of the service, and they were both doing great. Then, at the last minute, they decided to push it back to the middle of the service. Of course, it was downhill from there. Reily got bored, and Isaac got fussy. There was quite a bit of squealing and squirming on stage, but it was a true picture of what our family is like!
For the final prayer, Reily refused to be held, and decided to crawl at our feet. There was a lot of laughter when everyone opened their eyes and saw him!

I love my family!
Isaac sure is loved by lots of family!!
We gathered at our house afterward for lunch...the highlight was when I burned my thumb trying to make a sauce that turned into hard candy on top of the chicken! I had to keep my thumb in ice water for 3 hours or else it felt like it was going to fall off! I'm telling you...it's one ailment after another! It still hurts, but it's manageable...it's blistering like crazy...ouch!
Grandpa Lee and Isaac were worn out...

GG and Jo Jo with Isaac...

Grandpa Jim and Hans...

Poor Hans...I think I stressed him out on his Father's Day. We had a relaxing afternoon though, cuddling and watching movies...
And sleeping...

One sweet Father's Day memory that I want to remember...while Hans and Isaac were sleeping on the couch, Reily kept going over to Hans and whispering "Daddy? Daddy!" I kept telling him to leave Daddy alone so he could sleep, but he would run over to him and whisper again and give him a kiss...and then try to crawl into his arms and cuddle. Over and over...I hope Hans thought it was as sweet as I did, and didn't find it annoying to not be left alone....
Happy Father's Day!!

HAPPY FATHERS DAY HANS! We're so sad we missed Isaac's dedication and the dinner. It looks like everyone had a great time though! What a cute family!
