Election Day 2008

Like the rest of the world, we spent the afternoon and evening watching the election coverage. Although I can't say I'm extremely thrilled with the outcome, it's fun to know that we were watching history unfold, and will remember that moment for the rest of our lives...It makes me wonder how things will change for Reily and the new baby and what a different world they will live in.

We had a little family Election Day party in the evening and learned all about how presidents are elected, the history of voting rights, and the electoral college. I don't know that Reily got all that much out of it...but he seemed to enjoy the "stories." Plus Hans and I got to have a fun debate about whether the electoral college is the best method of election...we disagree strongly on this!!
We also had a patriotic dinner...chicken, red-white-and-blue mashed potatoes, corn and biscuits. Reily enjoyed mixing the food coloring in...
Here's Reily carrying his trusty Republican Elephant and wearing his elephant shoes. Too bad his support didn't seem to work in Colorado!!

Apparently Reily wasn't too happy with the election results...he threw a tantrum and went to bed before Obama's speech, but at least we have pictures that he can look back on to know he was a part of this momentous occasion in American history!
